From the backyard of his house at 25 Hunter Street in Sydney, not far from the observatory, Frederick Allerding observed the 1874 transit of Venus. His observations were interrupted many times, by allowing a great many friends to have a peep at the transit through a telescope of 3½-inch aperture. Learn more...
Location: 33°51′56″.6 S, 151°12′30″.2 E times of contact

Who provided you with the information about Frederick Allerding? I do not believe their observations are factual.

Just follow the 'Learn more...' link. This will bring you to H.C. Russell's 'Observations of the transit of Venus, 9 December 1874; made at stations in New South Wales'. On page 40 is Allerding's own report.
Why do you think their observations aren't factual?

Hi!

I'm right now ONE block from this location (found on google maps) and very interested in this.
I never even heard of this "Transit of Venus" prior to reading Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything" and listening to an unabridged (18 hour) download (from itunes)/reading of the same book

I am in a Clarion hotel on Dragarbrunnsg, the VERY NEXT street over at the almost identical latitude of the observatory/area.! Very exciting! Thanks for adding the icon and info!!!!

Will be hopping over that way in the AM.

Visiting Uppsala, Sweden/live in San Diego, California, USA

Your piece in the Orange Bay, Hoste Island, Chile on Google Earth asks if anyone knows the location of the plaque. I have read a description of a couple of people finding it. The book is called Rounding the Horn, by Dallas Murphy, and the description of them finding it is in the last few pages of chapter 13.

I was present for the observation of the transit of Venus at Pointe Venus Rodrigues on the 8th June 2004. Im a photograph and have some photos that can be showed to the worl of astronomers and students. I think that the observations of Abbe Alexandre Gui Pingre and thullier made in June 1761 at Pointe Canon is a very precious documents but unfortunately we do not have this documents or copy of it in Rodrigues could these docs be made available or a contact where we can seee or have this documents for the Island of Rodrigues and its Iinhabitans.

I think your predictions on our location is a great idea, however you base it on the IP address of our server which in our case is a long way away from us users, thus giving inaccurate readings. Hope you can improve your judgement of our physical location. Regards

I am doing a study of the history of the supposed satellite of Venus. You mention that in 1761 one William Chapple looked in vain for the satellite, but saw only some sunspots. Could you please tell me what the source is for this piece of information? (It seems not to be included in the Phil. Trans.)

Yours sincerely, Helge Kragh

NASA published (online) a series of predictions for the 2004 Venus Transit,
including timings for geocentric "Beginning of Ingress", etc., etc.

I notice that you give data for geocentric "Exterior Ingress" for the 2012 Venus Transit ..
22 hrs, 09 min, 29 sec

Is Exterior Ingress__the same__as "Beginning of Ingress" .. ? .. or is Exterior Ingress simply an estimate (current) of when the Venus "dot" will be "centered" on the edge of the solar disk at ingress?

Do you anticipate that NASA will again publish predictions as to "Beginning of Ingress", etc. .. for the 2012 Venus Transit?

Many thanks in-advance ..
